#441. Martyrerna…

”Then I saw the clock on the wall which had stopped at 9:57 am, the time that the bomb detonated. […] Someone handed me a steel ball - one of hundreds that were packed inside the bomb. […] I saw the blood of the martyrs on the floor of the church and it made me think that our whole history is full of such blood throughout 2,000 years. […] Someone pointed out to me the tissues of the bodies of the martyrs that were plastered high on the wall of the church - a grisly testament to the power of the bomb. […] Tears ran down my face, my heart was weeping blood for the families that are suffering and have lost loved ones. Many mothers had lost their lives as the bomb was on the right side of the church where women stand. How many sons, daughters and husbands are suffering and in mourning now?” (Bishop Anba Suriel)
Bra.

”Jesus said, ’Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.’
Words of the long forgotten and forever voiceless. Words of Those of the Great Famine of Mount Lebanon (1915–1918) mass starvation. 200’000 deaths. Half of the population. A starvation which eventually led to the confessions of mothers and fathers eating the corpses of their offsprings. Words of Those of the Armenian Genocide (1915-1923) mass murder. 1.5 million civilian deaths. 75% of the population. The forgotten genocides.
Words of Those bygone souls of girls who had been nailed alive upon their crosses, spikes through their feet and hands, only their hair blown by the wind, covered their bodies. Words of Jacques Hamel, the 85-year-old priest whose throat was slit while celebrating Mass in a church near Normandy, France. Words of that priest who was forced to kneel near the altar but not to say a prayer but rather surrender his last breath.
Words of All those christians including Levantines, Lebanese, Syrians, Iraqis, Armenians, Arameans, Assyrians, Syriacs, Chaldeans and Copts, who were guilty for having fearlessly, and openly locked the Christ in their hearts and minds. I stand corrected for once believing these souls were lost and forgotten! Against all odds, no one dies for the cross! We are only reborn through the cross.
But today, all of these forgotten Christian souls you have fallen short in remembering and failed to speak their voice, are the same souls who rest in the Christ's heaven remembering you! The keepers of the Christian faith. These souls you have forgotten are the voices that pleas to God to forgive you for you know not what you have failed to do – which is to commemorate them. And while you have failed to speak by the oath you vowed to keep, the Christ will never fail you, for he continues to forgive you since you know not what you have and have not done.
Tonight, when you sleep warm in your bed, with a roof over your head, remember those forgotten souls in a prayer of forgiveness to shed light on the path that you once vowed to take, a small step towards halting history from repeating itself.
In mind let all Christians bear,
The saints of old whose faith had dare
To stand for truth with courage rare
Baring their lives with nothing to care.”
